Cyberpunk 2077 arrives on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S: is it time for redemption for CD Projekt Red?

All Game News

Cyberpunk 2077 also comes up PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. We are talking about the long-awaited native versions for the latest generation consoles, which took a long time to wait (initially they were supposed to come out in 2021), but which are finally among us. Let it be time for the collected for CD Projekt Red after so much poison rained on her for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game?

Let’s face it: the Polish developer deserved the controversy that accompanied the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 in December 2020. The game was placed on the market in a sorry state, particularly on the two older generation consoles, and the marketing department of the company went out of its way to hide the thing, sending to the press only copies of the best version, the PC one, also full of bugs, but still usable from start to finish (as shown, for example, by the appreciation on Steam of hundreds of thousands of reviews positive).

Over time, however, the right grievances have turned into real prejudices. Patch after patch Cyberpunk 2077 is currently playable on all platforms. Where better, where worse, but the launch situation has been over for months. The new update can only improve the situation, yet many continue to talk about the game, evidently not having it, as if it were still in critical condition.

Of course, we can discuss the contents, between those who did not like them anyway and those who loved them, and we can discuss the legitimacy of a product that comes to show itself at its best after more than a year, but continue to define it as a disastrous and full game. bug is simply not true. More than anything else, it is a prejudice born of a certain way of talking about video games, which unfortunately we have been carrying around for years and which is fueled by the functioning of social networks and a part of the media, fringes of the sector press and influencers included.

If we want, that’s what happened, much smaller, with Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which at launch was not very usable on consoles (on PC it was very playable, albeit with many bugs … a situation similar to that of Cyberpunk 2077), which resulted in several ferocious attacks on developers by rapacious people, who limited themselves to collecting only the bugs to make a sensation, without considering everything else, with their followers who still today speak of one of the most significant and original experiences of the past generation as of a disaster, precisely because of those prejudices artificially fed but never dismantled in any way.

We hope that with the news related to Cyberpunk 2077 CD Projekt Red can leave behind that bad name that has been made, returning to be looked at as one of the leading software houses as regards the action role-playing games. Obviously with the next major title he will have to show that he has understood the lesson. But this, as they say, is another story.
