Nintendo announced that it has made a deal for the acquisition of 100% of SDR Co., a historical team of the company that has helped in the development of many games since the 1980s, including The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Animal Crossing and more.
There conclusion the acquisition is expected on April 1, 2022. Nintendo says the acquisition will have only minor effects on Nintendo’s financial results.
SDR is a support team, which has been a partner of Nintendo for years without being owned by the company. It should also be said, however, that SDR’s Kyoto offices are inside the Nintendo Develpment Center. From the point of view of the user, this is more a formality than a real acquisition. Nintendo’s workforce hasn’t changed and there are no intellectual property changes.
This is a perfectly sensible acquisition for Nintendo, which has already had a say in its approach in terms of teaming. The Big N thinks differently than Sony and Microsoft.
