Matt Piscatella of NPD has unveiled hardware sales data for the gaming market in the USA for the month of July 2022. PS5 was the console that recorded the highest revenues, while Nintendo Switch is in first place in terms of units sold.

The past month has been particularly good for hardware sales in the United States, which increased by 12% year-on-year, to a total of $362 million. A certainly positive figure given that it interrupts a not very reassuring trend: since the beginning of the year, spending on hardware has dropped by 7% compared to 2021, for a total of 2.5 billion dollars.

Piscatella says that PS5 and Xbox Series X | S saw a double-digit percentage increase in sales in July, without specifying how much, however. As mentioned at the beginning, Sony’s flagship console was the one to have recorded the highest revenues, despite the fact that Nintendo Switch is first in terms of number of units sold. A situation fundamentally identical to that of June 2022 and which is explained by the higher price of Sony hardware.

Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X and PS5

On the other hand, bad as regards the sales of accessories, down 22% in July year-over-year, to a total of $148 million. Piscatella says that controller purchases in particular have declined. Despite this, the PS5 Dualsense in Midnight Black was the best-selling accessory, while the Xbox Elite Series is still the best-selling peripheral since the beginning of the year.
