The metaverse and blockchains are two of the hottest terms in recent weeks. For this reason it is not surprising that even the great video game producers are interested in exploring these two worlds. One of the first to take a step is Square Enixthe publisher of Final Fantasy and Tomb Raider, which he chose The Sandbox to enter the metaverse. It will do it with Dungeon Siegeperhaps not his most famous series … but we must start somewhere as well.
The collaboration will take place in two ways: first of all, a Dungeon Siege-themed LAND (i.e. a virtual terrain contained within the universe of The Sandbox) will be activated. Inside, players will be able to experience RPG experiences and learn the best strategies for building IP-based adventures. The second will allow users themselves to use characters and objects in voxels within their experiences created in The Sandbox thanks to the use of the VoxEdit and Game Maker tools.
All this, probably, starting from March 3, 2022, the day in which the Alpha Season 2 of The Sandbox will begin, or the second test phase of the game.
Dungeon Siege is an old RPG series that takes place in the medieval kingdom of Ehb. The series, which in the parent game followed a young farmer and his companions on their journey to defend themselves from an invader attack, has inspired multiple sequels that have sold over 1.7 million copies overall. Ubisoft had chosen the Rabbids to weave a collaboration with The Sandbox.
“Dungeon Siege has always intended to inspire a sense of adventure in fans and entering the metaverse of The Sandbox opens up new and exciting possibilities for players to shape their own adventures,” he says. Hideaki Uehara, director of business development at Square Enix. “We are happy and excited to see our brand come to life in The Sandbox thanks to the inspiration and creativity of RPG fans.”
“The RPG category is one of the most popular and dynamic in The Sandbox, so Dungeon Siege’s entry into the metaverse is a tremendous opportunity for our community,” he says. Sebastien Borgeg, COO and co-founder of The Sandbox. “Through the Dungeon Siege experience on the Square Enix property, players will be able to embark on a unique adventure that will entertain them and prepare them to create their own original quests inspired by the games in the series, thus taking the franchise into the future. circular creativity is the main ingredient of The Sandbox “.
